Karaoke is built on other people's songs, so this page matters more here than it does on most services. It says what you may bring to spiffyk, and how to tell us if something on it is yours and shouldn't be.
What you may perform and upload
Only bring material you have the right to bring. If you upload a track, it should be one you own, one you have a licence for, or one that is genuinely free to use. If you perform a song in a room, keep it to people you know — spiffyk is a room with your friends in it, not a broadcast.
Your own performance is yours. The song underneath it usually belongs to somebody else, and sharing a recording of it can need their permission even when singing it privately doesn't.
Reporting something that's yours
If you own rights in something on spiffyk and it's there without your permission, write to copyright@spif.fyi with:
- what the work is, and enough detail to identify it;
- a link to where it appears on spiffyk;
- your name, address and contact details;
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorised by the owner, its agent, or the law;
- a statement that the information is accurate, and that you are the owner or authorised to act for them;
- your signature, electronic or physical.
We act on complete notices promptly, and remove or disable what they point at. We will tell whoever posted it, and pass on your notice.
If we removed something of yours by mistake
Write to the same address with a counter-notice: identify what was removed and where it was, state under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification, and give your name, address, contact details and consent to the jurisdiction of the courts of the State of New York, United States. We may restore the material after the statutory waiting period unless the complainant goes to court.
Filing a knowingly false notice, either way, has legal consequences for the person filing it.
Repeat infringers
Accounts that repeatedly infringe are terminated. We keep a record of notices for that purpose, and we don't require a court to tell us when a pattern is obvious.
Reporting anything else
For content that isn't a rights problem — harassment, sexual content, anything involving a minor — use the report button on the clip, or write to hello@spif.fyi. Reported clips are hidden automatically once enough people report them, and we look at every one.
